The Virtue of Knowledge: The Prophet ﷺ said: "Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim." (Ibn Majah, Sahih). Allah says: "Say: My Lord, increase me in knowledge." (Surah Ta-Ha 20:114). Knowledge is the highest form of ibadah when sought with the right intention.

Rabbi Zidni Ilma — Dua for Knowledge (Quran)

Surah Ta-Ha 20:114
رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا
Transliteration: Rabbi zidni 'ilma
Meaning: "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."

This is the shortest and most powerful dua for students. Despite its brevity, it is a direct Quranic command from Allah to the Prophet ﷺ — and a continuous supplication every believer should make. Recite it throughout your studies, before opening your books, and during revision.

Dua for Understanding & Ease (Dua of Musa AS)

Surah Ta-Ha 20:25-28
رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي
Transliteration: Rabbi-shrah li sadri, wa yassir li amri, wahlul 'uqdatan min lisani, yafqahu qawli
Meaning: "My Lord, expand my chest, ease my affairs for me, and remove the impediment from my tongue so that they may understand my speech."

Prophet Musa (Moses AS) made this dua before facing Pharaoh. Students can recite this before exams, oral presentations, interviews, and any high-pressure situation requiring clarity of mind and speech.

Dua for Sharp Memory & Understanding

At-Tirmidhi 3599 | Hasan
Meaning: "O Allah, benefit me with what You have taught me, teach me what will benefit me, and increase me in knowledge."

This dua specifically asks for beneficial knowledge — not just memorization. Recite it every morning as part of your daily adhkar.

Islamic Exam Preparation Tips

Tahajjud Before Exams

Wake up in the last third of the night and make dua to Allah. This is the most accepted time for supplications.

Perform Fresh Wudu

Study in a state of Wudu (ablution) — it brings focus, barakah, and spiritual cleanliness to your learning.

Read Quran Daily

Even 5 minutes of Quran recitation daily opens the mind and heart. Begin your study sessions with a few ayat.

Trust in Allah

After making dua and studying hard, place your full trust in Allah. He is Al-'Alim — the All-Knowing.

The Islamic View on Education and Exams

The very first word revealed to the Prophet ﷺ was "Iqra" — Read! (Surah Al-Alaq). Islam placed knowledge at the very heart of the religion from its first moment of revelation. Seeking knowledge is not just permissible — it is obligatory (Fard) for every Muslim, male and female.

Does Dua Replace Studying?

Absolutely not. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Tie your camel, then place your trust in Allah." This means: take all the practical steps first (study hard, revise, sleep well) and then make dua. Dua without effort is wishful thinking; effort without dua is arrogance. The Muslim combines both.

Surah Al-Kahf and Memory

Many scholars recommend memorizing and reciting the first 10 verses of Surah Al-Kahf as a means of strengthening memory and seeking protection from tests and trials. Reciting it every Friday is also a confirmed Sunnah that brings light (nur) to the believer for the week.
