Sabr is One of the Greatest Gifts

Allah ﷻ says: "Indeed, Allah is with the patient." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:153)

⚖️

The Rank of Sabr: The Prophet ﷺ said: "No person is given a gift better and more comprehensive than patience." (Sahih Bukhari 1469). Sabr is mentioned over 90 times in the Quran — more than almost any other quality — showing its supreme importance in the sight of Allah.

Dua #1 — Rabbana Afrigh 'Alayna Sabra (Quran)

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:250
رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
Transliteration Rabbana afrigh 'alayna sabran wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna 'alal-qawmil-kafirin
"Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people."
Context: This was the dua of the army of Prophet Dawud (David AS) and Talut (Saul) before facing Goliath. Their sabr and this dua led to an impossible victory. Use it in any overwhelming situation.

Dua #2 — Dua of Prophet Ayyub AS (Most Powerful)

Surah Al-Anbiya 21:83
أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
Transliteration Anni massaniya-d-durru wa anta arhamur-rahimin
"Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful."
Incredible Story: Prophet Ayyub (AS) suffered extreme illness and loss for 18 years. He did not complain — he simply stated his pain to Allah and reminded himself of Allah's mercy. The Quran says: "So We responded to him and removed his adversity." (21:84). This 7-word dua is perhaps the most powerful of all time.

Dua #3 — Inna Lillahi (Dua of Calamity)

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:156-157
Transliteration Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma-jurni fi musibati wa akhlif li khayran minha
"Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me in my calamity and replace it with something better for me."
Umm Salamah's Story: She said she recited this after her husband died, thinking "what could be better than Abu Salamah?" Then she married the Prophet ﷺ himself. The promise of "khayran minha" (better than it) is real and documented in history.

Unlimited reward for the patient — Surah Az-Zumar 39:10

The Three Types of Sabr in Islam

Scholars of Islam have categorized patience into three types, all of which are required from a believer: (1) Sabr 'ala ta'ah — patience in performing acts of worship even when difficult; (2) Sabr 'an ma'siyah — patience in refraining from sins; and (3) Sabr 'ala al-musibah — patience in the face of trials, loss, and suffering.

Does Allah Really Reward Unlimited for Patience?

Yes. Allah says: "Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account." (Surah Az-Zumar 39:10). On the Day of Judgment, rewards for every deed will be multiplied by 10 to 700 times — except Sabr, which will be given without any limit or calculation. This makes it the most rewarding deed a Muslim can perform.
