Knowledge is the Path to Allah
Allah ﷻ says: "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" (Surah Az-Zumar 39:9). Seeking knowledge is an act of ibadah.
🎓
The Reward of Seeking Knowledge: The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever takes a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise." (Sahih Muslim 2699). Every step to school, every hour of study with the right intention is an act of worship that earns Jannah.
Dua #1 — Rabbi Zidni Ilma (Quran | Most Famous)
Surah Ta-Ha 20:114
رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا
Transliteration Rabbi zidni 'ilma
"My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
Profound fact: This is the ONLY place in the Quran where Allah commands the Prophet ﷺ to ask for more of something — and that something is knowledge. Not wealth, not strength, not power — only knowledge. Recite it constantly: before opening your books, while studying, between topics.
Transliteration Allahumman-fa'ni bima 'allamtani, wa 'allimni ma yanfa'uni, wa zidni 'ilma, walhamdulillahi 'ala kulli hal
"O Allah, benefit me by what You have taught me, and teach me what will benefit me, and increase me in knowledge. And praise be to Allah in all circumstances."
Best time: Recite this every morning as part of your adhkar. It asks for three things simultaneously: that current knowledge becomes useful, that new useful knowledge is given, and that knowledge continues to increase. This covers all dimensions of Islamic learning.
Transliteration Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa min da'watin la yustajaba laha
"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, a heart that does not fear, a soul that is never satisfied, and a supplication that is not answered."
Important: Not all knowledge is beneficial. The Prophet ﷺ warned against knowledge that puffs up arrogance, knowledge that distances from Allah, or knowledge that is not accompanied by practice (amal). This dua asks Allah to protect us from such knowledge.

Islamic Study Habits that Bring Barakah
Study in Wudu
Being in a state of purity brings barakah and focus to your study session.
Tahajjud Time
The last third of night is the most blessed time for memorization and deep understanding.
Start with Quran
Begin each study session with 5 minutes of Quran recitation to open the heart.
Sadaqah Before
Give Sadaqah before an important study session — it opens doors of rizq and knowledge.
Eat Less
Scholars note that overeating dulls the mind. Eat moderately for sharper focus and memory.
Right Intention
Study with the intention of benefiting the Ummah — this transforms study into ibadah.
Why Did the Scholars of Islam Memorize So Much?
The great scholars of Islam — Imam Bukhari, Imam Shafi'i, Ibn Taymiyyah — memorized hundreds of thousands of hadith, pages of Quran, and volumes of fiqh. The secret was not just intelligence — it was combining taqwa (God-consciousness), sincere dua, and consistent effort. Imam Shafi'i once said his memory improved dramatically when he reduced his sins, because he noticed that knowledge is light and sin extinguishes that light.
The Relationship Between Sin and Memorization
Imam Shafi'i famously wrote to his teacher Imam Malik: "I complained to you about the weakness of my memory. You advised me to abandon sins. Truly, knowledge is a light, and the light of Allah is not given to sinners." This is not just spiritual wisdom — Islamic tradition consistently links moral purity with intellectual sharpness and the ability to retain knowledge.
