Clothing is a Blessing from Allah
Every Act of the Muslim is Worship
Allah ﷻ says: "O Children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment." (Surah Al-A'raf 7:26)

Clothing as Gratitude: Clothes are one of the great blessings of Allah — protection from heat and cold, modesty, and beauty. By saying dua when dressing, we acknowledge this gift and transform a daily habit into conscious worship. Even getting dressed can earn reward!
Transliteration Alhamdulillahil-ladhi kasani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah
"All praise is for Allah who has clothed me with this and provided it for me, with no power or might from myself."
The Reward: The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever wears a garment and says this dua, his past sins will be forgiven." (Abu Dawud, Sahih). This means getting dressed — done with this dua — becomes an expiation of sins! A daily opportunity for purification.
Transliteration Allahumma lakal-hamdu anta kasawtanihi, as'aluka min khayrihi wa khayri ma suni'a lah, wa a'udhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni'a lah
"O Allah, all praise is for You. You have clothed me with it. I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what it was made for, and I seek Your protection from its evil and the evil of what it was made for."
When to use: This dua is specifically for NEW garments. The phrase "evil of what it was made for" acknowledges that clothing can be misused for arrogance, showing off (riya'), or impermissible purposes — so we seek Allah's protection from those pitfalls.
Dua #3 — When Seeing Someone in New Clothes
Ibn Majah 3600 | Sahih
تُبْلِي وَيُخْلِفُ اللهُ تَعَالَى
Transliteration Tubli wa yukhlifullaahu ta'ala
"May you wear it out and Allah replace it for you."
Social Sunnah: When you see someone wearing new clothes, say this dua for them. It is a beautiful Islamic etiquette — instead of just saying "nice dress!" you make dua that they enjoy it fully and that Allah gives them more. This turns a social moment into an act of worship and dua for your brother/sister.

The Islamic Philosophy of Clothing
Allah ﷻ gave humans clothing as both a physical necessity and a spiritual test. The Quran says: "O Children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness — that is best." (Surah Al-A'raf 7:26). The final phrase "libas al-taqwa" (garment of God-consciousness) shows that the most important clothing a Muslim wears is their taqwa — their inner state of piety.
Why Start with the Right Hand?
The Prophet ﷺ loved to start with the right side in all good acts — entering the mosque, wearing clothes, using miswak, combing hair. The left side is used for removing clothes and entering impure places. This consistent right-first habit keeps the mind connected to the Sunnah throughout all daily activities, transforming routine into remembrance of the Prophet ﷺ.
