Al-Ayn — The Evil Eye is Real
The Evil Eye is a Reality Confirmed by Islam
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The evil eye is real, and if anything could outrun qadar (fate), it would be the evil eye." — Sahih Muslim 2188
🛡️
Important: The evil eye (Al-Ayn) is confirmed in the Quran and Hadith. It can come from anyone — even a person who loves you — if they look at something with admiration without saying "Masha'Allah." The Quran even references it in Surah Al-Qalam 68:51 and Surah Yusuf 12:67.
Dua #1 — Morning & Evening Shield (Most Important)
Transliteration Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'as-mihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-sami'ul-'alim
"In the name of Allah with Whose name nothing can cause harm on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing."
Ultimate Protection: The Prophet ﷺ said whoever recites this 3 times in the morning and 3 times in the evening will not be harmed by anything. This is the single most powerful daily protection dua in the entire Sunnah.
Transliteration U'eedhuka bi kalimatil-lahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammatin wa min kulli 'aynin lammah
"I seek protection for you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every evil eye."
Sunnah: Say "u'eedhuka" (singular), "u'eedhukuma" (for two), or "u'eedhukum" (for more). The Prophet ﷺ used to blow gently on Hasan and Husayn (RA) after this dua. Recite it on children every morning and night.
Dua #3 — Say This When You Admire Something
Sahih Bukhari | Common Sunnah
مَا شَاءَ اللهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ
Transliteration Ma sha Allah, la quwwata illa billah
"What Allah wills! There is no power except with Allah."
Prevention: Scholars strongly recommend saying "Masha'Allah" every time you admire something — your child, your wealth, a friend's beauty — to prevent inadvertently giving the evil eye. Allah references this phrase in Surah Al-Kahf 18:39.

Is the Evil Eye (Al-Ayn) Real in Islam?
Yes — unequivocally. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The evil eye is real (haqq). If anything were to overtake the divine decree, the evil eye would overtake it." (Sahih Muslim 2188). The Quran itself references the evil eye in multiple places, and the Prophet ﷺ was himself reportedly affected by the evil eye and was cured through Ruqyah.
What is Ruqyah?
Ruqyah is the Islamic practice of reciting specific Quranic verses and authentic duas as a form of spiritual healing. The most important Ruqyah verses are: Surah Al-Fatiha, Ayatul Kursi (2:255), the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:285-286), Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas. These can be recited over the affected person, or blown over water that they drink.
Is Wearing a Blue Eye (Nazar Boncuk) Permissible?
No — wearing amulets (ta'wiz) with symbols or charms (including the blue glass eye pendant popular in many cultures) is not permissible in Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever hangs an amulet has committed shirk." The only permissible protection is Quranic verses, authentic duas, and Ruqyah as described above.
