The Masjid's Virtue: The Prophet ﷺ said: "The most beloved of places to Allah are the mosques, and the most hated of places to Allah are the markets."Sahih Muslim 671

 Dua When Entering the Masjid

Sahih Muslim 713
اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
Transliteration: Allahumma-ftah li abwaba rahmatik
Meaning: "O Allah, open for me the gates of Your mercy."

Sunnah: Enter with the right foot first, begin with Salawat on the Prophet ﷺ, then recite this dua.

 Dua When Leaving the Masjid

Sahih Muslim 713
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
Transliteration: Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik
Meaning: "O Allah, I ask You for Your bounty."

Sunnah: Leave with the left foot first, begin with Salawat, then recite this dua. Asking for Allah's Fadl (bounty) when leaving the mosque connects your worship to your daily provision.

Tahiyyatul Masjid — Greeting the Mosque

Sahih Bukhari 1163
لَا تَجْلِسْ حَتَّى تُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ
Instruction: Do not sit down until you have prayed two rak'ahs (Tahiyyatul Masjid).
Meaning: The Prophet ﷺ commanded that when you enter the Masjid, you pray two rak'ahs of Tahiyyatul Masjid (greeting of the mosque) before sitting down. This is a Sunnah Mu'akkadah (confirmed Sunnah). Even if the Imam is giving the Khutbah on Friday, you still pray these two rak'ahs briefly.

Why Is Asking for Fadl When Leaving the Mosque?

It might seem unusual to ask for worldly provision (Fadl) when leaving a place of worship. However, this connects to a beautiful Quranic verse: "When the prayer has ended, disperse through the land and seek from the bounty of Allah." (Surah Al-Jumu'ah 62:10). After every Salah, we return to our worldly duties — and Islam encourages us to seek halal rizq actively, beginning with dua.

What If You Enter and the Prayer Has Started?

If you enter the Masjid and the congregation has already started, join the prayer immediately — the Tahiyyatul Masjid is fulfilled by joining the congregational prayer. You do not need to pray two separate rak'ahs first.
