What is Shab-e-Barat?
In South Asian cultures, the 15th night of Sha'ban is often referred to as "Shab-e-Barat" (The Night of Deliverance). In Arabic, it is known as Laylat al-Bara'ah. While there are authentic Hadith stating that Allah grants widespread forgiveness on this night, Islamic scholars emphasize that there are no specific, prescribed congregational prayers or rituals for this night in the authentic Sunnah.
The Sunnah of Fasting in Sha'ban
Aisha (RA) reported: "I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fasting for a whole month except the month of Ramadan, and I did not see him fasting in any month more than in the month of Sha'ban." (Sahih Bukhari). Fasting in this month is a warm-up for the physical and spiritual marathon of Ramadan.
