Better Than a Thousand Months

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Search for Laylatul Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan." (Sahih Bukhari)

Calculating nights...

*Important: In the Islamic calendar, the night precedes the day. The "21st Night" begins at Maghrib on the 20th of Ramadan.

Worship Multiplier: One night of worship on Laylatul Qadr is rewarded as if you worshipped continuously for 1,000 months (83 years and 4 months). If you pray 2 rak'ahs, it is as if you prayed them every day for 83 years. If you give $1 in charity, it is as if you gave it every day for 83 years!

The Dua for Laylatul Qadr

Aisha (RA) asked the Prophet ﷺ what to say if she finds Laylatul Qadr. He told her to say:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
"Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun, tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni."
"O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, You love forgiveness, so forgive me."

How Do You Know Which Night is Laylatul Qadr?

The exact date of Laylatul Qadr is intentionally hidden by Allah ﷻ so that Muslims strive in worship throughout the entire last ten days of Ramadan. However, the Prophet ﷺ advised us to seek it in the odd nights: the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and 29th. The majority of Islamic scholars, including Ibn Abbas (RA) and Ubayy ibn Ka'b (RA), held the opinion that it most frequently falls on the 27th night.

Signs of Laylatul Qadr

According to authentic Hadith, the signs of Laylatul Qadr are seen the morning after: the sun rises without rays, appearing like a brass dish. The night itself is described as peaceful, tranquil, neither too hot nor too cold. However, one should not obsess over finding the signs, but rather focus on consistent worship every night.
