The Science & Sunnah of the Miswak

What is a Miswak?

A Miswak (or Siwak) is a natural twig made from the Salvadora persica tree (Arak tree). It has been used for thousands of years as a natural toothbrush and contains antibacterial properties.

Health Benefits

Modern science confirms that the Arak tree twig contains natural fluorides, silica, vitamin C, and resins that prevent tooth decay, strengthen gums, eliminate bad breath, and whiten teeth.

Multiplication of Reward

Many scholars mention that a Salah (prayer) performed after using the Miswak is seventy times superior to a prayer performed without it, due to the immense purity and adherence to the Sunnah.

How to use it

Chew the tip until the fibers separate like a brush. Use it to gently scrub the teeth and tongue. Cut off the used tip every few days to expose fresh, potent fibers.
