"Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no deity but Allah. And Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise."

Understanding the Sunnahs

Eating Before Prayer

For Eid al-Fitr, it is a strict Sunnah to eat an odd number of dates before leaving for prayer, symbolizing the end of fasting. For Eid al-Adha, the Sunnah is to delay eating until after the prayer, preferably from the sacrificed animal.

Taking Different Routes

The Prophet ﷺ would go to the Eid prayer taking one route, and return home taking a different route. Scholars say this is to greet more angels, meet more neighbors, and manifest the symbols of Islam widely.

The Takbeerat

Reciting the Takbeer out loud while traveling to the prayer ground is a beautiful forgotten Sunnah. It revives the atmosphere of Eid and fills the streets with the remembrance of Allah.

Congratulating Others

The companions of the Prophet ﷺ used to congratulate each other on Eid by saying: "Taqabbal Allahu minna wa minkum" (May Allah accept [good deeds] from us and from you).
