A Traveler's Dua Reaches the Heavens
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Three duas are never rejected: the dua of the traveler, the dua of the oppressed, and the dua of a father for his child." — At-Tirmidhi (Sahih)

Your Dua is Accepted! As a traveler, your dua has a special status — it is one of the three duas that are never rejected. Make the most of every journey: supplicate abundantly for yourself, your family, and the Ummah. The car, the plane, or the train becomes a place of worship.
Transliteration Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah
"In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power or might except with Allah."
When you say this, an angel says: "You are guided, protected, and guarded." Shaytan says to other shayateen: "What can we do with a man who has been guided, protected, and guarded?" (Abu Dawud)
Transliteration Bismillah, Alhamdulillah. Subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila rabbina la-munqalibun.
"In the name of Allah, praise be to Allah. Glory to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it (by our efforts). And to our Lord we shall indeed return."
This dua is recited from Surah Az-Zukhruf (43:13-14) and acknowledges that Allah has subjected the vehicle for your use — a recognition that even your car, train, or plane is a gift from Allah. Recite it when sitting in any vehicle.
Transliteration Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadhal-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-'amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha watwi 'anna bu'dah.
"O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and taqwa in this journey of ours, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and fold its distance for us."
The Prophet ﷺ said this dua when he and his Companions set out on a journey. The phrase "fold its distance" (atwi 'anna bu'dah) is a beautiful metaphor asking Allah to make a long journey feel short — and many travelers report experiencing exactly this with the blessing of this dua.
"We are returning, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord."
Say this dua on the way back home. The Prophet ﷺ would say this each time he returned from a journey. It reframes the return trip as a spiritual act — coming back repentant, thankful, and as a worshipper of Allah.

Why is the Traveler's Dua Special?
The Prophet ﷺ specified that the traveler's dua is among those that are never rejected. Scholars explain this is because the traveler is in a state of vulnerability, distance from home, and reliance on Allah — which are the perfect conditions for sincerity in dua. The traveler's heart is humble, and humility is the foundation of accepted supplications.
Is it Sunnah to Say Takbir (Allahu Akbar) While Travelling?
Yes — when going uphill, say Allahu Akbar. When going downhill, say SubhanAllah. This was the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ on all his journeys. (Bukhari 2994). Today this applies to roads: going up a hill or mountain pass — Allahu Akbar; descending — SubhanAllah. Turn every elevation change into an act of worship.
