The Month of Planting Seeds

Abu Bakr al-Balkhi said: "Rajab is the month to sow the seeds; Sha'ban is the month to irrigate the crop; and Ramadan is the month to reap the harvest."

A Month of Sanctity: Rajab is one of the four sacred months (Ashhur al-Hurum) mentioned in the Quran (9:36). During these months, warfare is traditionally prohibited, and the reward for good deeds is multiplied, just as the punishment for sins is more severe. It is a time to cease hostility and focus heavily on worship.

The Dua for Rajab & Sha'ban

It was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ to make this beautiful supplication as soon as the crescent of Rajab was sighted, begging Allah to allow him to witness the month of Ramadan.

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي رَجَبٍ وَشَعْبَانَ وَبَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَانَ
"Allahumma barik lana fi Rajab wa Sha'ban wa ballighna Ramadan."
Meaning: "O Allah, bless us in Rajab and Sha'ban, and allow us to reach Ramadan."

Key Dates in Rajab

1st of Rajab

The First Night

Imam Shafi'i mentioned that the first night of Rajab is one of the five nights in the year when Duas are guaranteed to be accepted. It is highly recommended to spend this night in worship and supplication.

13th, 14th, 15th

Ayyam al-Bidh (White Days)

Fasting the middle three days of the lunar month is a beautiful Sunnah. In a sacred month like Rajab, the reward for fasting these days is even greater.

27th of Rajab

Al-Isra wal Mi'raj

The historic Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet ﷺ to the heavens. Many Muslims use this day to reflect on the miracle and the gift of the 5 daily prayers that were prescribed.

Note on Fasting in Rajab: While there are no specific, obligatory days to fast exclusively in Rajab, fasting in general is highly encouraged during all sacred months. You may fast Mondays and Thursdays, the White Days, or alternate days.
