A Mercy to the Worlds

"And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds." (Quran 21:107)

The Monday Connection: While historians differ slightly on the exact date of his birth, it is unanimously agreed that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was born on a Monday. When asked why he fasted on Mondays, he replied: "That is the day on which I was born and the day on which I received Revelation." (Sahih Muslim). Therefore, fasting on Mondays is a beautiful Sunnah to honor his birth!

Send Salawat (Blessings) Abundantly

"Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace." (Quran 33:56)

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
"Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin wa 'ala aali Muhammad."
"O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad."

What is Mawlid an-Nabi?

Mawlid, or Milad un Nabi, translates to the "birth of the Prophet." It is observed by many Muslims around the world in the month of Rabi' al-Awwal. It is a time when the Seerah (biography) of the Prophet ﷺ is recounted, poetry honoring him is recited, and food is distributed to the poor.

The 12th of Rabi' al-Awwal

It is important to note that the 12th of Rabi' al-Awwal is also the most widely accepted date for the passing away (wafat) of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the 11th year of Hijrah. Thus, this month is a time for deep reflection on both the light he brought into the world and the immense grief the Sahabah felt upon his departure.
