MarriageSunnah Insights on Wedding Timing
The Month of Shawwal
It is a highly recommended Sunnah to get married in the month of Shawwal (the month after Ramadan). The Prophet ﷺ married Aisha (RA) in Shawwal, breaking the pre-Islamic superstition that it was an unlucky month.
Are there "Unlucky" Months?
In Islam, no month or day is "unlucky" or cursed. Safar and Muharram were considered unlucky by the Arabs before Islam, but the Prophet ﷺ explicitly abolished these superstitions. You can marry on any day of the year.
Warning: Ramadan Daytime
While it is permissible to perform the Nikah ceremony in Ramadan, it is highly discouraged if it leads to breaking the fast or if the couple cannot control their desires during the fasting hours (which is strictly prohibited and requires heavy expiation).
The Blessed Friday
Many scholars consider Friday (Jumu'ah) to be an excellent day for the Nikah ceremony, particularly in the mosque, as it is the most blessed day of the week and a day where supplications are accepted.
