Compatibility Checklist

Assess potential spouses based on the Prophetic guidelines.

1. Religious Commitment (Deen)

Do they pray 5 times a day? Do they fast? Do they fear Allah in their dealings?

2. Character & Manners (Akhlaq)

Are they respectful to parents? How do they behave when angry? Are they truthful?

3. Family Background

Is their family environment generally Islamic and supportive? Kafa'ah (compatibility in background) is recommended.

4. Financial Capability

Can the man provide a basic halal living and pay the Mahr?

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

"A woman is married for four things: her wealth, her family status, her beauty, and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a loser." (Bukhari)

About Islamic Marriage Compatibility

Islam highly values the institution of marriage. Choosing a spouse is one of the most important decisions in a Muslim's life. While physical attraction and financial stability are important, the primary criterion should always be religious commitment and good character.

What is Kafa'ah?

Kafa'ah refers to compatibility or equality between the prospective husband and wife. Classical scholars suggest checking compatibility in religion, lineage, profession, and financial status to ensure long-term harmony in marriage.
