Is the Islamic New Year a Celebration?
Unlike the Gregorian New Year, there are no specific religious festivals, feasts, or special prayers prescribed in Islam to "celebrate" the New Year. The two official celebrations in Islam are Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
However, the 1st of Muharram is a powerful time for reflection. It is an opportunity to reflect on the passage of time, our deeds in the past year, and our intentions for the year to come. Since Muharram is one of the four sacred months, it is highly recommended to fast and increase in good deeds as the new year begins.
