Mandatory Vaccinations
The Saudi Ministry of Health requires a valid Meningococcal Meningitis vaccination certificate (issued no more than 3 years and no less than 10 days before arrival) for all pilgrims. Depending on your country of origin, Polio and Yellow Fever vaccines may also be mandatory.
Heatstroke Prevention
- Hydration: Drink plenty of Zamzam water continuously. Do not wait until you are thirsty. Add rehydration salts (electrolytes) to your water once a day.
- Umbrella: Always use a light-colored umbrella during the day in Arafat and Mina.
- Avoid Peak Sun: Try to perform Tawaf and Sa'i during the night or early morning. Avoid walking outside between 11 AM and 3 PM if possible.
Foot Care & Walking
- Pre-Hajj Training: Start walking 3-5 km a day at least two months before your trip in the sandals you plan to wear.
- Blister Prevention: Keep your feet dry. Use petroleum jelly or anti-chafing cream between toes and on heels.
- Diabetic Care: If you are diabetic, inspect your feet daily for cuts or blisters, as infections can spread rapidly.
Medication Management
- Supply: Bring enough of your prescription medication to last the entire trip, plus a 10-day buffer in case of delays.
- Original Packaging: Keep medicines in their clearly labeled original boxes with a copy of your doctor's prescription to avoid customs issues.
- First Aid: Pack paracetamol, ibuprofen, cough drops, anti-diarrhea pills, and deep-heat muscle rub.
Respiratory Health ("Hajj Cough")
- Face Masks: Wear high-quality masks (N95 or surgical) in crowded areas to prevent the rapid spread of respiratory infections.
- Hand Hygiene: Wash hands frequently with unscented soap or use unscented hand sanitizer (important while in Ihram).
- Avoid Sharing: Do not share prayer mats, towels, or drinking cups with others.
