About the Fidya & Kaffarah Calculator
This premium Fidya & Kaffarah Calculator is built to help you calculate the correct Islamic compensation for missed or intentionally broken fasts. It provides clear guidance and fast results so you can fulfill your obligation with confidence.
Fidya and Kaffarah are two different forms of compensation under Islamic law. This calculator shows how each one is calculated and lets you compare the amounts instantly.
Fidya
For those who cannot fast due to chronic illness, old age, pregnancy or nursing, and cannot make up the fast later.
Kaffarah
For intentionally breaking a fast without a valid excuse. This is a more severe penalty than fidya.
Accurate Payment
Calculate exact meal-based compensation using local meal cost values.
What Is Fidya?
Fidya is paid when a person is permanently unable to fast during Ramadan due to a valid excuse such as chronic illness, old age, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. If making up the fast later is not possible, fidya is the correct compensation.
The usual fiqh rule is to feed one poor person two meals for every missed fast. This calculator applies that rule so you can easily compute the total cost.
What Is Kaffarah?
Kaffarah is due when a fast is deliberately broken without a valid reason. The primary kaffarah requirement is to fast sixty consecutive days. If a person is genuinely unable to complete that fast, then they may feed sixty poor people two meals each.
For every broken fast, this calculator assumes the alternate payment method of 60 people × 2 meals = 120 meals.
How the Calculator Works
- Fidya: Days missed × 1 person × 2 meals × meal cost.
- Kaffarah: Days broken × 60 people × 2 meals × meal cost.
Example: If one meal costs 10, then fidya for 3 missed fasts is 3 × 2 × 10 = 60. Kaffarah for 1 broken fast is 60 × 2 × 10 = 1200.
Important Notes
- If you can make up the missed fast later, you should perform qadha instead of paying fidya.
- Fidya is only for those who cannot fast and have no hope of making up the missed days.
- Kaffarah is only due for deliberate violations of the fast, not for accidental mistakes or forgetfulness.
- Please consult a trusted local scholar for the final ruling in your school of thought.
