Rules of the Talbiyah
When to Start Reciting
You begin reciting the Talbiyah immediately after putting on the Ihram and making the formal intention (Niyyah) for Umrah or Hajj at the Miqat.
When to Stop Reciting
For Umrah: Stop reciting the Talbiyah the moment you reach the Kaaba and are about to begin Tawaf.
For Hajj: Stop reciting the Talbiyah on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah right before you throw the first pebble at the Jamarat Al-Aqabah.
Volume & Etiquette
- Men: It is Sunnah for men to raise their voices loudly when reciting the Talbiyah.
- Women: Women should recite it softly, loud enough only for themselves or the women immediately next to them to hear.
Frequency
Pilgrims should recite it constantly during the journeyโwhen getting into a vehicle, climbing a hill, meeting other groups of pilgrims, and after mandatory prayers.
