Miqat Locations Guide
Learn about the 5 official boundaries established by the Prophet ﷺ where pilgrims must enter the state of Ihram.
Geography & FiqhTraveling by Airplane
If you are flying directly into Jeddah airport to perform Umrah, your flight will cross the Miqat boundary while you are in the air. You must put on your Ihram garments before boarding the plane, or during the flight before the Miqat announcement is made by the pilot.
You must make the intention (Niyyah) and say the Talbiyah the moment the pilot announces you are flying over the Miqat. You cannot wait until you land in Jeddah to wear the Ihram.
The 5 Official Miqat Stations
Dhul Hulaifah
(Abyar Ali / Bir Ali)Located roughly 9 kilometers from Madinah and about 400 kilometers from Makkah. It is the furthest Miqat from Makkah.
Al-Juhfah
(Near Rabigh)Located about 190 kilometers northwest of Makkah. Today, pilgrims usually enter Ihram from the nearby town of Rabigh.
Qarn Al-Manazil
(As-Sail Al-Kabeer)Located about 80 kilometers east of Makkah, near the city of Ta'if. This is a very common Miqat for those flying from the East.
Yalamlam
(Sa'diyah)Located about 100 kilometers south of Makkah. It is a mountainous area.
Dhat Irq
(Al-Dharibah)Located about 90 kilometers northeast of Makkah. This Miqat was established by Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA).
Is Jeddah a Miqat?
No. Jeddah is located inside the Miqat boundaries. Therefore, if you land at Jeddah airport with the intention of Umrah/Hajj, you have already crossed the Miqat without Ihram. This is a common mistake. You must be in Ihram before your plane lands in Jeddah.
The only exception is for people who actually reside in Jeddah; their Miqat is their home in Jeddah.
